I think if more people took in their surroundings, paid more attention to what's infront of them, people would be much happier. One of my most favourite things to do is people watch. When we don't pay any attention to our fellow human being, we miss out on so so much.

Watching someone else make another person happy, brings me a lot of joy. Tonight I drove down Ponsonby road, I saw a young man drape a blanket over him and a girl so they'd both be warm walking to their car, even though it made it very difficult for them to walk. I saw a father holding the hands of his little girls, walking up the beautifully xmas lit Franklin Road, the girls had wreathes of fairy lights in their hair. I saw a girl drop her scarf and a passer by picking it up and running after her to return it. I saw 6 people sitting on small concrete wall eating KFC and sharing their chippies. I saw two people kissing in a large crow gathered infront a bar, kissing like they were the only two people in the world.

Being a writer is difficult when you feel like you have nothing to write about, but if you can draw inspiration from things as small as this, your work, and your life, will have so much more meaning.

I'm not trying to sound cheesy or forcing people to do. It was a realisation that I came to tonight. I love watching people be happy.

Facebook friends

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook.

I like it because:

I can see how my friends are - emotionally, career-wise, time-wise, etc.

I can reconnect with people who I haven't seen in 10+ years.

The photos are awesome.

I learn heaps when someone else learns something and talks about it.

I have gotten job offers and free stuff just by being "seen" on there.

I can talk to someone informally about a formal issue rather than sending an awkward email and coming off as a tard.

I hate it because:

It's annoying, people can be annoying.

It's not as private as I would like.

People on there are incredibly passive aggressive.

and the worst thing... Finding out that people have unfriended you and knowing the thought process they went through to make those 2 clicks.

I actually don't mind people unfriending me, what worries me is not knowing what I did to them to make them do it!

One tiny issue can totally explode into a flooding of questions, what did I do? Are they angry at me? Was it an accident? Do they hate me? Did I say something wrong? Why don't they like me anymore? Did someone tell lies about me? Did they go crazy? Do I smell?

Man that is gross. So much insecurity over nothing.

So what bought this on.. I noticed that my facebook friend number dropped about 20 people. Usually I wouldn't notice maybe 4 or 5, but 20 is a pretty big number. At first I didn't really care because half the people on there I have hidden on my feed so I wasn't missing out on much... but when I noticed that the majority of that 20 or so people were all friends IRL it made me wonder what happened!

I understand that a lot of people would have unfriended me because I haven't spoken to them in like 6 months, but a few of them I have previously worked with and gotten them jobs through my boss... jobs that one would KILL to be considered for. For serious. And I know I can be quite vulgar with my status updates but I've said worse IRL so the people who unfriended me because of that reason totally have a good reason to have done. I think I might send a couple of them a message... is that really anal? I just want to ask! Fuucccckkkkk.

I see facebook firstly as a networking tool, the fact I can talk to my friends is just a bonus. There are heaps of people I don't like on there, but for NETWORKING reasons, I have them on there JUST IN CASE. I don't want to burn any bridges just because I have a tiny issue with them using their babies as their profile pictures.

Godamns, I have a lot to say about this pointless topic.

I think the main thing that bothers me is that I have annoyed some people and I don't know why or how :(

Sometimes my concern for people comes off, or is interpreted as a kind of criticism or an insult.. I can sometimes sound abrasive when I really care about someone. If I genuinely dislike someone then I don't talk to them at all. If I care about someone, I will be all up in their grill about the issue. I think it makes perfect sense but some people find it difficult to understand.

But then I start thinking... It's ok if people don't like me, we don't all have to like each other do we? So quit worrying Lucy! I have enough awesomely close friends who love me and I shouldn't worry about the acquaintances.

It's a beautiful blog of random thoughts, pictures and other things.

Those are the best kinds of blogs I think. Ones that are posts of people's real personal happenings on a computer screen.

I love knowing people's business, knowing what's going on in their lives and what they're thinking. I think that's why I like Facebook and Twitter so much. So voyeuristic.

Accidents and a racist woman.

In the afternoon of the 3rd of August I accidentally scratched a woman's car in a car park due to bad judgement.

Unfortunately, the owner of the car: Emma Roberts, a property manager, decided that her approach of name calling, verbal abuse and racist comments was the best way to handle the situation.

What had happened was: I turned into a car park, and misjudged the space and accidentally made a small dent and 3 surface scratches on the rear left panel of her car. I wrote a note, leaving my name, phone number and an explanation. I waited in my car to see if the own of the car would come back, seeing as the parking was for a maximum of 30mins, they would be back soon.

Barely a minute later, the owner of the car, came towards me and said "What the fuck did you do to my car you fucking idiot."

Of course I could understand her anger, no one wants to see their property damaged.

I told her I was really sorry and that I would get it fixed, but, for some reason she decided to say things like "fuck off" "learn to fucking drive you fucking asian." "I don't fucking care if it was an accident you stupid bitch." "you're fucking dumb" "open your fucking asian eyes." ...you get the idea.

I said to her that there was no need to get racist, I was trying to fix the situation. Of course she decided to scoff at that, and basically told me I was poor and she was powerful and that I should fuck off and die.

Great stuff.

I asked for her phone number so I could contact her later but she angrily said "No, I'm not giving you my number." I didn't really have anything else to say after that, but she shoved her business card and me and stalked off.

My friend and I were pretty upset when she left. Mainly about the racism.

The car is easily fixed. No one got hurt. No one lost anything. No one died.

What I am struggling with is why she felt the need to bring up my race and repeatedly swear at me like I wasn't even human. Treating me like I was a piece of shit. That's what I was in her mind, a thing that she could spit at and exert power over.

Which brings to me think... She cared more about an inanimate object, over the feelings of a human being.

I'm not saying that her racist comments are going to make me become mentally ill, but whenever someone treats me inhumanely because of my ethnicity, I will probably be reminded of her hateful glare and the feeling I got in my chest when she used my appearance as an insult.

The value she put on the appearance of her car was so high that she wasn't bothered that society was viewing her as a racist. Her decision to put objects before humans makes her appear to be a cold, callous, superficial person.

What also bothered me was the way she kept looking at other people, as she was yelling at me, with a smug look on her face. Like she felt like she was allowed to talk to me in that way. Like she was entitled to be publicly racist and get away with it. No one has a right to be racist. If you are going to dislike someone, it should be for what they do and what they say - not because of the colour of their skin. Her arrogant sense of entitlement and peacocking was what made me feel absolute shame for her. Not that she cared what I thought, it was all about her and her car and fuck the rest of the world.

When I put myself in her shoes, if I was the one whose car was scratched, I would not have reacted the way she did.

Admittedly I imagine I would be rather annoyed at first, but if I could see that someone was genuinely sorry and made an attempt to fix it then I would do my best to put them at ease and cooperate. Because after all, it's just a car. A person's mental health is much more important. Added unnecessary stress is the last thing I would want to put on someone. I like to think that I am a fair and empathetic person, I would never scream at someone in public for something so minor and repairable. I can't worry myself wondering why people can be so apathetic towards each other, because I know that there's never going to be a solution for it.

I don't see what she achieved when she said those things. What was she trying to prove? I think that if I was a white female, she would still be angry but would have been less dramatic. If I was a white man, she would have been giggling and waving it off. If I was a pacific island woman, she would possibly have treated me like before. If I was a pacific island man, there would have been less yelling and name calling and more sensible attitudes on her behalf. But I'm none of the above and no matter how much I analyse it and try to understand why she thinks the way she does, it's not going to take back that whole embarrassing moment.

Being yelled at is never nice, so adding racist comments really tops the cake of a shitty experience. I've dealt with many racist people in my 23 years of living (so far).. difference faces, same words. You'd think that hearing it so often would make you get used to it, but you never get used to it. Each time it happens, I feel my faith for humanity crumble away more and more. What's going to happen to me when I have nothing left? I don't want it to lead me into a life of misanthropy. I don't want to let it affect me, I shouldn't care what ignorant people have to say. But it still hurts. Perhaps when I am older it won't bother me as much. I look forward to that day.

There are so many misconceptions about feminism, that we're all man haters, hairy, anti-sex, non-religious... That is far from the truth. Some of the most beautiful people I know are Feminists.

Being a Feminist doesn't mean you have to stop having sex with men, or stop wearing make up. It's about making things fair and equal for HUMANS. It's nothing to do with bringing men down, it's about being equal politically, socially, economically... It's 2010 and there is still extreme sexism in many parts of the world, so extreme that women are being killed just for being a woman.
Being a Feminist also a way to pay homage to the people who fought for the rights women have today.

So ever since I've started dating, I've always dated guys older than me. I really love older men. I'm not talking a year older, or 5 years older, I'm talking 10 years+ older.Freaking awesome. The downside to this though, is that people think I'm gold digging or have daddy abandonment issues. Neither is the case, I'm rich and my dad is awesome.
So what is it exactly about older men that I like? Most older men are a lot calmer than young guys... less dramatic and questioning. Most have their shit together, career wise and such. They're pretty attentive during sex, and less clumsy. They are usually really grateful for each fuck too which makes the experience so much more awesome. Most older men have these kind of, sad eyes and furrowed brows, like they know that their lives are almost over and you know that you are the only thing that is making them happy until they die.
I've dated a couple of men in their mid to late 30s, they're the best kinds of guys to have heavy but quick flings with. One guy I dated was a 38 year old divorcee, he had a kid but his ex had moved to London with her new boyfriend and his kid had gone with her. So he was saddish, lonely and wasn't really comfortable getting back into the dating scene. Unfortunately, I really liked that he was so clueless so I never really said anything that had any substance or importance to him. He was a little confused as to what we were doing, he never knew if I was going to answer his calls or if I was going to stay night, or if we were even boyfriend and girlfriend. But being the nice guy he was, he never questioned me or pushed me into telling him things. That was probably one of the best relationships I've had.
I have a very small window of being in another older man relationship. The older I get, the older they get, and I think the age cut off for me is about 46. They are TOO old after that.
Hmmm.... I'm not sure I like the way I sound in this post.

So a friend and I went to see the Banksy doco at the film festival, it was freaking packed! I thought a few graphic design students would be there and some lost people but nope, the Civic theatre was FULL. Insane.

Anwyays, so after a little thought on the film, I wondered... is it a documentary or a movie? Was Banksy playing a trick on us? Showing us how art only becomes monetarily valuable when you are told it is? And that a Nobody can be a Somebody, and a Somebody is a Nobody?

Lots to think about, but as my friend put it: "..we all got punk'd by Banksy..."

I was watching this reality tv show a while ago, it was a "make your self better in front of a million+ viewers because we all know you're famewhores and we want the ratings" kind of show.

The host made the girls write a letter to their fathers and then read them aloud to each other.

How fucking ridiculous.

Ahahahaaahahah it was hilarious! Basically the letters were like:

"Dear Dad, you were never there for me - when I wanted something that was unreasonable. When you got home from working a 60 hour week you never bought me a pony! WAHHHHH!!! All you ever did was clothe me, feed me and put a roof over my head!! Because of you, I have sex with abusive men and binge drink and flash my tits all about town. I'm a slut because my Daddy didn't take me to the mall everyday and spoil me with Barbies. WAAAHHHHHHH!!!"

And then it was just a mess of embarrassingly sad women with eyeliner and fake tan running down their faces and their straw hair frizzing up because they're sweating.

I'm seriously sick of these spoiled girls who feel like the world owes them something.

If you dad treats your mother with respect and sends you to school with shoes then he's done a good job IMO.

In 2008 we were introduced to a group of young, fresh faced, ethnically pleasing group of young males who took over the stage at the Hearal Theatre with their in your face, let us entertain you comedy show. After just 5 shows they earned the title of Best New Comers 2008 at the Comedy Festival Awards.

Now they're back and bigger than ever with their new show E.K.Z TV. Based on the TV shows we see today, The ElectricKoko Zoids have taken a parody approach to current evens and prime time shows. With a huge cast of 10 performers this show is big, loud and proud, be prepared to laugh and pee a little in your panties. The highlight of the show is possibly the "Sex in the Village." A parody of "Sex in the City", of course. The performers to note are Unitec acting student Billy Revell and his flawless portrayal as Chi-Chi in the Ninja skit, Paul MacDiarmid (of Oh Baby and Shafted and Wallflower) as one of the token white boys and his terribly hysterical Samoan annunciation and Tom Natoealofa (presenter on Tagata Pasifika which airs on TV One), with his acrobats and silky charm.

If half naked men, body hair and the occasional white boy joke offends you then still come anyway because it's hilarious. For $15 you wont be disappointed and you'll be supporting a group of kids with high hopes and dreams to do what they love doing: taking piss of out of every thing.

Maybe my determination to succeed at life puts people off.

Ruined relationships because I don't have time for someone... "I'm too busy, I've got to work." was my line all of last year and sometimes now. Or maybe it was an excuse to break up with them.

I love my job. But I don't love that I can't share my new achievements with someone. Someone to be genuinely excited and happy for me even though it doesn't have anything to do with them.

I can't give it all up, I've worked too hard. But giving it all up would mean I could focus on that other part of my life... but then I wouldn't be me.

Leave it all and be attentive, giving and available.

Maybe I will find someone that can morally support me through all this until I'm done, no one so far has been able to stick with me.

I've spoken to her a few times around Unitec but not as much as I would have liked.
There's one thing I like very much about Ruby, she and I share a common bond, a deep understanding, a fraternal like connection, this connection is BEING PANTSLESS.
Yes we fucking love to be PANTSLESS. Around the house I don't like to wear pants, it sucks, they are so restrcting and uncomfortable. UNDIES AND SHIRT. That's how I live, UNDIES AND SHIRT. My flatmates don't like it but I don't give a shit. PANTSLESS FO' LYFE YO.
Ruby and I message each other on facebook and twitter about being pantless and our our dream of throwing a pantless party some day.
We also have random little things in common, like being mistaken for a different ethnicity, moustaches, hilarious and AWESOME.
Ruby is also beautiful and thin and she has a long graceful neck. BUT, she's also one of the coolest girls you'll ever met. She's down to earth and chillaxed as fuck. Everyone likes Ruby when you met her, she's just that charming.

My friend RJ is one of the craziest, loudest and outspoken people I know.

I sometimes feel like RJ is what I am inside, except I appear more reserved on the exterior because I am not as insanely confident as he is.

I love his hair, he changes it about every 4 months and it's always cool.

I thought I was a dirty dirty bitch but in reality, RJ is much more dirty than I. He has a way with words, he can use the words probe, anal, fuckhole and pig into an eloquently poetic sentence.

RJ is also extremely intelligent, he owns many ~~leather bound~~ books and his room smells of ~~rich mahogany~~ ~~sweating cum party~~ handsome man perfume. If I don't know something I know that RJ will be the one to explain it and not make me feel stupid.

RJ has always been compassionate, open and kind to me. When I first spoke to him we were in Elizabeth's class and she wanted us to pair up and "reveal" ourselves to our partner. I got RJ and I can't remember what I said but we had an understanding of it and from then on we were buddies.

RJ also compliments me nearly all the time and it's very very lovely to walk into a room with him scream "Lucy! Come here and fuck me!" Then he will pull me into a hug and pretend to pound my bellybutton. You can't stay in a badmood after that!

I love RJ very very much and I am very very very sad to see him go to the UK :'( I hope you and your bf are going to have a fabulous time there!! XOXO

I have a huge fear of rejection, most people do.

This is why I never ask for things from people, anything at all. Rides/favours/advice/gifts. But people always ask me for things. Always.

I'm not a push over, but lately I feel like people have been taking advantage of my friendship. Expecting I'll always be there...

I do have a few close close friends that I know would help me in a heartbeat and I really appreciate them. I always try to pay them back though.

I guess I am just tired at the moment, cracks are appearing and I am not sure if I can hold it together anymore.

Little brother Ben

It was my brother's birthday today. He turned 13 :( He wont be cute anymore, he's going to be another stinky teenage boy.

I made him a cake, the writing I did was with royal icing and it broke when I put it on the cake! FML. So I did a rush job and just wrote it on, unfortunately my flatmate decided to toast some bread and boil the kettle so the words melted :( Fail cake.

But it tasted good though, so so good.

We had hot pot for dinner, it's where you cook your own food in a boiling pot of soup straight on the table. It's very impractical, but it's fun and it's Ben's favourite way to eat.

I was singing a Little Mermaid song in the car today. I knew all the words.

The person in the car with me kept asking what I was singing.

I just kept singing.

I knew all the words because when we were younger, my little brother and sister used to watch Disney movies over and over and over again in a day, everyday for about 3 years. I can recall all the dialogue and songs from the following:

Pocahontas

There's one more but I can't remember right now. It will come to me though.

Not that any of these songs come in handy... I don't think I'll meet someone who will be impressed that I know all the songs and the words to these few Disney movies. It would have been better if I memorised my times tables and the pythagoras theorem instead. Maths was never my strongest subject.

Through my entire life I've been told by many people that I could never do the things I dreamed. Loved ones, friends, teachers and strangers... I don't know why but so many people had such little faith in me. And for the most part I listened and I wasn't happy. Until one day, I realised that the only way I was going to be happy was to do what I wanted to do.
Like for example, I was told that I would never get a job as a writer. I wasn't white, I wasn't smart enough, I was too young and I wasn't good enough. ...And now, 5 years later I've been an editor for a student magazine, I've had work published in the New Zealand Herald and several smaller newspapers and magazines. I have written a successful short film which has been picked up by a short film festival. I came up with an idea and researched a documentary which was also picked up by the international doco festival. I am working for a well established production company as a screenwriter for a feature film and I have been commissioned by Elizabeth Hawthorne to write plays as teaching material for her classes. None of these things came easy, I really worked hard because I am passionate about my life being as great as it could be. I didn't do all these things to spite the people who said I couldn't do this, I did all this because I wanted to.

If you really really want something, the only person that can get you there is you. It sounds so cliche but it really is true. Everything I have in my life right now is mine because I worked for it. The satisfaction and gratification that comes with knowing that I did everything I could to get to where I am is part of my happiness. I'm so proud of myself, and it's not about being arrogant, it's about commending yourself and telling yourself that you did a great job. When you recognise it, you can appreciate life a lot more.

Some people are too negative about life. If you go about your whole life with a negative attitude people are going to see it and you are going to give other people reason to be negative towards you. If people acknowledged the good things they have then maybe they could be a little more happy.

What is life, if you don't do anything with it? We don't need to do extravagant things like be a huge movie star or be president, if we take each success as it comes and celebrate them with positivity then I think that's enough to get you through a really extraordinary and happy life.

Easter weekend

On Friday I struggled to finish 10 pages of work.

On Saturday I worked 12 hours at a silly market selling vegetables and fruit.

On Sunday I spent most the day living off cans of coke and fast food because none of the supermarkets were open.

On Monday I will be going to visit my grandpa's grave with a bunch of yellow flowers.

I'm not sure if I actually like these long weekends.

This is why I am nearly always happy.
